Spring Hill

Residential Property in Spring Hill | Vacant Land in Spring Hill

The modern, unincorporated community of Spring Hill was founded in 1967 as a planned community, which was developed by the Deltona Corporation. The plans for the community are identical to the community of Deltona. It has since become an ever growing semi-city in its own right, though it is an unincorporated area. The main entrance to the original development is marked by the Spring Hill waterfall on Spring Hill Drive and US Hwy. 19 (Commercial Way).

Spring Hill is approximately 40 miles north of Tampa, and the completion of the Suncoast Parkway in 2001 has made access to the Tampa Bay - St. Petersburg area very convenient. Residents enjoy the slower pace of Spring Hill, but can be at a major league game, mega star concert, enormous shopping malls or 5 star restaurants in a matter of minutes.

The population in 2016 was estimated at 111,189 people. Spring Hill has a total area of about 62 square miles, of which a little less than 60 square miles are land and a little over 2 square miles are water.

Recreation

The Gulf of Mexico lies to the west, and the Withlacoochee River flows along the county's eastern border. One of Florida's largest state forests, Withlacoochee forms part of the Great Florida Birding Trail. The forest is laced with waterways for canoeing and fishing; canopy trails for hiking, cycling and horseback riding; and wildlife viewing areas for spotting deer, squirrel, wild turkey and gopher tortoise. The Croom Motorcycle Area is a 2,600-acre, off-road site, with miles of trails for motorcycles and ATVs. Campgrounds and picnic sites are provided.

Area Parks

Hernando County boasts more than 20 developed parks, all of which are wheelchair accessible. Coastal parks include Bayport Park near Spring Hill and Pine Island Park, which features a beach, swimming area, picnic and barbecue areas, bird-watching trails and concession stands. Woodland parks, which offer hiking trails, fishing, boating and horseback riding, include Cypress Lake Preserve and Lake Townsend Regional Park.
